Ambientada en 1939 en plena campiña francesa a lo largo de un solo día, está compuesta de varias historias entrelazadas en torno a la figura de Elisabeth y su familia. Una atractiva muestra del interés de Eric Rohmer tanto por el relato y la descripción psicológica como por el comportamiento humano en general, no exentos de la fina ironía que suele ser una constante en su obra.
